The computer operator is responsible for monitoring and controlling computer systems, networks, and related equipment. The role involves responding to error messages, troubleshooting issues, performing routine system maintenance, and ensuring that backup operations are completed regularly.
Key Responsibilities:

System Monitoring:
- Monitor computer systems and networks for errors, performance issues, and outages.
- Observe system performance and promptly report and escalate issues.

Troubleshooting:
- Respond to system error messages and operator queries.
- Diagnose hardware, software, or network issues and work to resolve them or escalate to IT staff.

Routine Maintenance:
- Perform regular system backups, data archiving, and maintenance tasks.
- Schedule routine updates, patches, and upgrades for software and hardware.

Job Scheduling:
- Operate batch processing jobs and ensure that jobs run successfully as per the schedule.
- Coordinate with other IT staff and departments for job prioritization and execution.

Documentation:
- Maintain logs of all system operations, errors, and maintenance activities.
- Document operating procedures, system issues, and solutions for future reference.

System Security:
- Ensure systems are secured and follow data protection policies.
- Manage access to the system by controlling user credentials and permissions.

Backup and Recovery:
- Execute regular backups and ensure data integrity.
- Assist with system recovery in case of failure, ensuring minimal downtime.

Hardware Support:
- Operate and manage computer terminals, printers, storage devices, and other related hardware.
- Assist in basic troubleshooting of hardware components and coordinate with vendors for repairs.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in computer science or related field is a plus.
- Experience in a computer operator or related role is preferred.
- Familiarity with various operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc.).
- Knowledge of basic networking concepts.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic hardware and software issues.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
