The Computer Operator ensures the efficient and secure operation of computer systems, servers, and networks. They monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, execute scheduled tasks, and provide support for both hardware and software problems.
Key Responsibilities:

System Monitoring and Maintenance:
- Monitor computer systems and networks for performance issues or malfunctions.
- Perform regular system checks and maintenance tasks.
- Ensure systems are running efficiently and securely.

Troubleshooting and Support:
- Identify and resolve technical problems.
- Respond to system alerts and user-reported issues.
- Provide technical support to end-users and staff.

Data Management:
- Manage and maintain data backups and archives.
- Ensure data integrity and security.
- Restore data when necessary.

Job Scheduling and Execution:
- Execute and monitor scheduled tasks and batch jobs.
- Ensure all scheduled tasks are completed on time and without errors.
- Document and report any issues encountered during job execution.

Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed logs of system performance, maintenance, and issues.
- Prepare regular reports on system status and performance.
- Document procedures and technical guides for future reference.

System Upgrades and Updates:
- Install and configure software and hardware updates.
- Collaborate with IT teams to plan and implement system upgrades.
- Test and verify new software and hardware functionalities.

Security and Compliance:
- Monitor system security measures and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Implement and manage access controls.
- Assist in security audits and risk assessments.

Training and Development:
- Provide training to new staff and end-users on system operations.
- Stay updated on new technologies and industry trends.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree in computer science or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience as a computer operator or in a similar role.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with operating systems (Windows, Linux, UNIX), mainframe computers, and network systems.
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, or specific system certifications) are a plus.
