A Hotel Receptionist is the face of the hotel, responsible for providing a warm and professional welcome to guests, managing check-ins and check-outs, handling reservations, and assisting with inquiries to ensure a positive guest experience.


Key Responsibilities

Guest Relations

  1. Greet guests warmly upon arrival and provide a friendly check-in and check-out experience.
  2. Address guest inquiries, complaints, or special requests in a timely and professional manner.
  3. Offer information about the hotel’s amenities, services, and local attractions.
  4. Manage guest feedback and escalate issues to the appropriate department if needed.

Reservations and Front Desk Operations

  1. Handle room bookings via phone, email, or online platforms, ensuring accurate data entry.
  2. Confirm reservations and manage cancellations or modifications as per policy.
  3. Allocate rooms and ensure they meet guest preferences or special requests.
  4. Maintain records of room availability and guest accounts using property management systems (e.g., Opera, Fidelio, or Amadeus).

Administrative Duties

  1. Process payments, issue invoices, and manage the cash register.
  2. Maintain a log of guest activities and coordinate with housekeeping and maintenance departments.
  3. Ensure all front desk supplies are stocked and organized.
  4. Adhere to hotel policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

Qualifications and Skills

  1. Educational Background: High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in hospitality is a plus.
  2. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in multiple languages is an advantage.
  3. Computer Proficiency: Familiarity with reservation systems and basic office software (e.g., MS Office).
  4. Interpersonal Skills: Friendly, patient, and customer-focused attitude.
  5. Problem-Solving: Ability to handle guest issues tactfully and efficiently.
  6. Organizational Skills: Attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  7. Appearance: Maintain a professional and well-groomed appearance.

Work Environment

  • Front desk operations within the hotel lobby.
  • Shift-based work schedule, including weekends, holidays, and late-night shifts as needed.

Salary Expectations

  • Typically ranges between ?12,000 to ?30,000 per month in India, depending on the hotel’s size, location, and star rating.
