The Computer Operator is responsible for the day-to-day operation and monitoring of computer systems, networks, and related equipment. This role involves executing scheduled tasks, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and ensuring that all systems are functioning correctly. The Computer Operator plays a key role in maintaining the organization's IT infrastructure and supporting the smooth execution of business processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Monitoring: Continuously monitor computer systems, networks, and related equipment to ensure that they are running efficiently and without interruption.
- Job Scheduling: Execute and manage scheduled tasks, batch jobs, and backups according to established procedures and timelines.
- Troubleshooting: Identify, diagnose, and resolve hardware, software, and network issues promptly to minimize downtime.
- Data Management: Ensure the integrity and security of data by managing backups, archiving, and recovery processes as required.
- System Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as system updates, patch management, and hardware checks, to ensure optimal performance.
- Reporting: Maintain logs and documentation of system performance, incidents, and resolutions, providing reports to management as needed.
- User Support: Provide technical support to users, helping them troubleshoot issues related to hardware, software, and network connectivity.
- Security: Monitor system security, ensure compliance with company policies, and report any security breaches or vulnerabilities.
- Collaboration: Work closely with IT staff, system administrators, and other departments to ensure smooth operations and timely resolution of issues.
- Emergency Response: Be available to respond to emergencies, such as system failures or data breaches, outside of normal working hours when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Education: A high school diploma is required, though a degree or certification in computer science, information technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in a computer operator or IT support role is advantageous.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of computer systems, networks, and operating systems.
- Proficiency in using and managing software applications and tools.
- Basic knowledge of databases and data management practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Good communication skills for interacting with users and IT staff.
