The Computer Operator is responsible for overseeing the operation of computer hardware systems, ensuring that they run efficiently and effectively. This individual monitors system performance, resolves any issues that arise, and ensures all computer-related tasks are completed on schedule. They work closely with IT support teams to maintain the smooth functioning of systems and may provide first-level troubleshooting when system problems occur.
Key Responsibilities:

System Monitoring & Operation:
- Monitor the performance of computer systems and networks.
- Operate and control mainframes, servers, or other large-scale computer systems.
- Schedule and execute computer jobs, ensuring tasks are completed on time.
- Respond to system alerts, taking appropriate action to resolve or escalate issues.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance:
- Identify and troubleshoot system malfunctions or inefficiencies.
- Perform first-level diagnostics of system failures and implement solutions when possible.
- Coordinate with IT teams for hardware repairs, software updates, and system upgrades.
- Maintain system backup procedures and ensure data is regularly backed up and recoverable.

Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain detailed logs and reports of system operations, downtime, and any issues encountered.
- Document troubleshooting steps and solutions for future reference.
- Generate performance reports for management and relevant teams.

Job Scheduling & Automation:
- Schedule and monitor batch jobs, ensuring they execute without errors.
- Automate repetitive tasks where possible, reducing manual intervention in system operations.

Security & Compliance:
- Ensure system security by monitoring for unauthorized access and adhering to company security protocols.
- Follow established policies for data protection, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure proper handling of sensitive data and information within the systems.

Collaboration:
- Work closely with IT support teams, system administrators, and other technical personnel to resolve system issues.
- Communicate system statuses, issues, and updates to supervisors and relevant departments.
- Assist in system upgrades, software installations, and hardware setups as needed.
Qualifications:

Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent. An associate degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Certifications in IT systems (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, or equivalent) are a plus.

Experience:
- Previous experience as a computer operator or in a similar IT support role.
- Experience working with computer systems, servers, or mainframes.
- Familiarity with job scheduling and system monitoring tools.

Skills:
- Strong technical knowledge of computer systems, networks, and hardware.
- Proficiency with operating systems such as Windows, Linux, and UNIX.
- Good understanding of system backup and recovery procedures.
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
