The accountant is responsible for managing and maintaining financial records, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, preparing financial reports, and assisting in budgeting and forecasting. The role involves monitoring the organization’s financial activities, performing audits, and providing recommendations for improvement in financial processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Record Management:

    • Maintain and update financial records, including ledgers, invoices, receipts, and payments.
    • Ensure that all financial transactions are accurately recorded in the accounting system.
    • Review and reconcile bank statements and financial records for discrepancies.
  2. Financial Reporting:

    • Prepare financial statements such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports on a regular basis.
    • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.
    • Assist in the preparation of year-end financial statements and supporting schedules for audits.
  3. Budgeting & Forecasting:

    • Collaborate with department heads to develop and monitor budgets.
    • Analyze financial performance against the budget and provide variance reports with explanations.
    • Assist in financial forecasting and financial planning for future projects and operations.
  4. Tax Preparation & Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
    • Prepare and submit tax returns, ensuring timely and accurate filings.
    • Stay updated on tax laws and provide tax planning advice to minimize tax liabilities.
  5. Audit & Internal Control:

    • Perform internal audits to ensure accuracy and adherence to financial policies and procedures.
    • Recommend improvements in financial controls and implement best practices.
    • Assist external auditors with annual audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  6. Accounts Payable & Receivable:

    • Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely payments and collections.
    • Process and manage vendor invoices, employee expense reports, and customer payments.
    • Reconcile customer accounts and follow up on outstanding invoices.
  7. Payroll Management:

    • Assist in the preparation and processing of payroll, ensuring accuracy in employee payments.
    • Ensure payroll taxes and deductions are calculated correctly and reported.
    • Maintain employee payroll records and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  8. Financial Analysis:

    • Analyze financial data to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for cost savings.
    • Provide insights to management on improving financial performance.
    • Assist in financial decision-making by providing accurate financial analysis and forecasts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or similar certification is a plus.
  • Proven experience in accounting or finance roles.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar ERP systems).

Skills:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial tools.
  • Strong communication skills to explain financial information to non-finance personnel.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
