The computer operator monitors and controls computer systems and data processing equipment, ensuring efficient and uninterrupted operation. They are responsible for handling hardware and software issues, performing routine system checks, and providing support to other IT staff and end-users.
Key Responsibilities

System Monitoring and Maintenance
- Monitor and control computer systems, mainframes, and peripheral devices.
- Perform regular system checks to ensure hardware and software are functioning correctly.
- Maintain and update system logs and reports.

Operations and Production Support
- Execute and manage scheduled batch jobs and processes.
- Ensure the timely and accurate completion of production tasks.
- Respond to system alerts and perform troubleshooting to resolve issues promptly.

Technical Support and Troubleshooting
- Provide first-level technical support for hardware and software issues.
- Escalate complex problems to higher-level IT staff or vendors as needed.
- Assist in disaster recovery operations and system backups.

Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of system performance, issues, and resolutions.
- Prepare reports on system usage, performance, and incidents for management.

System Updates and Upgrades
- Assist in the installation and configuration of new hardware and software.
- Apply system updates, patches, and upgrades as required.

User Support
- Provide support to end-users for system access and operational issues.
- Conduct training sessions for users on system functionalities and best practices.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree or certification in computer science, information technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in a computer operator role or similar IT position is beneficial.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with operating systems (e.g., Windows, UNIX/Linux).
- Knowledge of mainframe systems and data processing equipment.
- Familiarity with system monitoring tools and software.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
